Trust & data

Plain answers for committees evaluating Backstage Platform — what you can export, how fees work, and what we do not claim.

Who we are

Backstage Platform is software built for UK amateur theatre and drama societies — public websites, online ticketing, memberships, lightweight finance, and box-office tools in one place.

As of this page being generated, 2 active societies are on the platform and 2 of those have linked Stripe for card payments. We are a growing product, not a legacy enterprise vendor — see features for scope and limits.

Data portability

Your society's operational data belongs to you. Signed-in committee members with the right permissions can download CSV exports from the dashboard:

  • Members — contact details, status, plans, emergency contact, roles, and notes.
  • Finance — manual income and expense transactions.
  • Tickets — orders, individual tickets, marketing opt-ins, and PDF summaries from the box office.
  • Website — design backup JSON from the website builder (theme tokens; not a full HTML mirror).

In your society dashboard, open Settings → Data & privacy for a list of export links. Card payments are processed through your society's own Stripe Connect account — charges, refunds, and payout records remain in Stripe if you disconnect from Backstage Platform.

We do not currently offer a one-click "export everything" ZIP; use the CSV downloads above for structured data. Exports are capped at 50,000 rows per file.

Fees & total cost

Societies pay a Backstage Platform subscription on Pro (Free plan has no monthly fee for ticketed shows). Online card sales also incur Stripe's card processing fees on the connected account, plus a small per-ticket platform fee when we process the payment. Cash and manual box-office sales do not incur the per-ticket platform fee.

See the pricing page for current numbers. Compare the combined Stripe + platform cost against your existing ticketing provider before switching.

Use what you need

You do not have to replace every tool at once. Societies can use ticketing only, add memberships later, or embed ticket sales on an existing website via our widget. Finance in Backstage is designed for society treasurers, not as a full replacement for dedicated accounting software.

Backups & reliability

The application runs on a PostgreSQL database with standard deployment practices (HTTPS, containerised app). We provide a public health check endpoint for basic uptime monitoring.

Database backups are the responsibility of whoever operates your hosting environment — we recommend automated daily backups and periodic restore tests. Do not rely on the platform as your only copy of critical records; export CSVs before major changes or if you plan to leave.

We do not publish a formal uptime SLA. For help during show weeks, see support.

Roadmap

We ship improvements regularly based on society feedback (ticketing, door tools, website builder, and committee workflows). We do not publish a fixed long-term roadmap with dates — features evolve with the product. If you need a specific capability, ask via support before committing your whole season.

Leaving the platform

Export your data while your account is active. Society admins can request erasure of the society from Settings → Data & privacy (this is destructive and intended for closing a society's account). Your Stripe account remains with Stripe; disconnect it in Settings → Payments when you no longer sell through Backstage Platform.
