Payments & risk terms

How Backstage Platform and societies share responsibilities for Stripe Connect payments.

1) Seller responsibility

Each society is responsible for the legitimacy of its events, membership charges, refund handling, and dispute evidence. Societies must provide accurate legal/business information and maintain up-to-date payout details in Stripe.

2) Card processing fees

For membership and ticket card payments taken through a society's linked Stripe account, Stripe's card processing fees are charged to that society's Stripe balance. Backstage Platform's fee is taken separately as an application fee. Societies are responsible for Stripe's costs on their sales; the platform does not subsidise card processing on new payments after Connect is configured for direct charges.

3) Platform risk controls

Backstage Platform may apply onboarding checks, transaction limits, delayed payouts, reserves, or account restrictions where fraud, disputes, or negative balances create elevated risk.

4) Refunds and disputes

Societies must cooperate promptly with refund and chargeback/dispute requests. If evidence is requested, societies must provide it by the required deadline.

5) Loss recovery and negative balances

If a connected account generates losses (including but not limited to refunds, disputes, and chargebacks), Backstage Platform may recover amounts owed from future settlements or invoice the society directly where appropriate.

6) Suspension rights

Backstage Platform may pause payout access, restrict new transactions, or suspend payment features for societies that present material risk, compliance issues, or repeated payment failures.
